Sutra Foundation Launches Second Season of Acclaimed Dance-Theatre Production Meniti Cakerawala 2.0, Embarking on a Nationwide Tour Across Malaysia

Following its critically acclaimed premiere in December 2024, Meniti Cakerawala 2.0, the landmark multimedia dance/music/theatre production by the Sutra Foundation, is set to return for a highly anticipated second season, now embarking on a Malaysia National Tour 2025.

This visionary production celebrates the life and work of Tan Sri Mazlan Othman, Malaysia’s pioneering astrophysicist and the founding director of the Langkawi National Observatory (LNO). As the central narrator of the show, Tan Sri Mazlan weaves together the science and romance of the cosmos, highlighting the intrinsic connection between art and science—two worlds she has long believed are deeply intertwined rather than disparate.

Meniti Cakerawala 2.0 will tour eight cities across Malaysia: Melaka, Seremban, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Klang, Penang, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu, bringing its unique blend of movement, music, visuals, and storytelling to new audiences, particularly aiming to inspire and engage the youth.

Sutra Foundation strongly believes in the importance of democratizing access to high-quality cultural performances across the country, fostering curiosity and creativity in communities beyond the Klang Valley.

Complementing the performance is a special visual arts exhibition titled Cosmic Connextions. Curated by SPEKTRA, a newly formed collective of contemporary Malaysian artists in collaboration with the Sutra Foundation and the Museum of Asian Art (University of Malaya), this exhibition features works by nine visual artists inspired by Meniti Cakerawala and the vast mysteries of the universe.

Cosmic Connextions pays tribute to Tan Sri Mazlan Othman and delves into the poetic dialogue between human imagination and cosmic infinity. Each artwork offers a deeply personal reflection on the theme of cosmic interconnectedness, interpreting the rhythms, metaphors, and enigmatic beauty of the universe through visual language. Evocative and layered, the exhibition bridges artistic expression and astrophysical exploration.

Wherever possible, the paintings will travel with the production and be exhibited in theatre foyers, offering audiences an immersive cultural and intellectual experience before and after the performance.
