Karakita Retreat, a charming farm stay like no other

Row, row, row your boat

Gently down the stream

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily

Life is but a dream.

Yes, we dreamt away as soon as we arrived at Karakita Retreat (a home stay) haven with a magnificent roaring stream that hypnotized us day and night!  It hits you right at your face and senses, both the breeze and the roaring waterfall sound … dream away here or meditate by the river bank, do yoga, or just dip into the wading pool with natural rocks and mineral stream water captured inside, hiking to the waterfall for a sunrise view, or make a pizza with their wood fired oven. Dinner can be BBQ or steamboat by the river, or all day al fresco dining at the center. You can arrange your holiday meals specifically with the in-house Chef and Manager. Have it your way, everything is easy here! Our Day 1 was full of excitement and fun!

Ahh…it has another melody when it rains and when it gets dark where my favorite orchestra begins. One should experience this unusual place so close to living in a nature forest that words cannot describe. The 12 beautiful Chalets are at Hilltops, by the river, with or without an open bath tub. Maximum 35 pax can be accommodate so it is good for a private party, company annual event, team building or simply get together to escape the city life for a weekend.

We had a chat with the owners, Mr Soh Swee Huat and wife, Christina Cheong, they bought the 110 acres of land in Lentang Forest, Hulu Langat with a dream to turn the forest into a fruit farm and a resort-like farm stay. Surrounded by lots of fruits now over 10 years of work, it has durian, mangoes, papaya, honey melon, banana, rambutan, longan, coconut, pumpkin and they are growing coffee and avocado trees, too. “A jeep ride into the farm with untouched bumpy pathway is what I wanted guests to experience. And please do not go all the way to kill insects and destroy any plant life here because remember You are the Visitor, they are the Permanent Residents in this farm,” says Soh. A remarkable Nature Lover indeed.

Day 2 we had a private tour to witness the “6 Kempas” private chalet in-the-making up in the middle of the mountain, after passing by a rich forest half way to the waterfall area. The 6 Kempas chalet will be a private residence for the owner but the lounge with a captivating open forest view is open to guests as a Café with a view. Anticipated to be ready in around 2-3 months.

Night time after dinner, we gathered at the farm’s lounge for Karaoke, mahjong and family games to relax and unwind.  The night breeze was so cool and refreshing, not forgetting the roaring stream was always at the background…and once a while, anticipate a friendly visit by Mr. Frog and bugs, especially when you go toilet. Remember do not kill them, you are but a Visitor, they are the Resident. 😊 Enjoy their company!

Day 3 we had a simple and healthy breakfast getting ready to leave the farm, some did last minute hiking up the waterfall, some did Yoga and jogging, some snacking all the way the CNY cookies and me forever taking photos and videos trying to capture the beautiful nature and all the memorable moments of our staycation! What a charming farm and as I bid goodbye to everyone, I already missed the place. I guess a 1.5 hour’s drive from KL to Karakita will not be too difficult, I will be back!
