Ministry of Digital provides access to Coursera courses through Rakyat Digital for 100,000 Malaysians to advance AI Nation 2030 vision
To support Malaysia’s AI Nation 2030 ambition, the Ministry of Digital, via MyDIGITAL Corporation, is funding access to digital and AI skills development through the Rakyat Digital portal, with Coursera as the learning platform provider. Through the government-funded Global Learning Pass, which is open to all Malaysians with a MyDigital ID, learners can access more than 16,000 courses and Professional Certificate programmes offered by leading universities and industry experts worldwide.

The pace of change underscores the need for continuous learning. The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 estimates that 41% of core skills in Malaysia are expected to change by 2030. This initiative forms part of the Rakyat Digital ecosystem and supports the Malaysia Digital 2030 Action Plan (MD2030) and National AI Action Plan 2026–2030. Through the Global Learning Pass, Malaysians receive three months of complimentary access to Coursera, with courses spanning AI, technology, data science, business and digital literacy. Starting from 16 September 2026, 100,000 licenses are being rolled out in phases subject to eligibility and availability.
Through Rakyat Digital’s Awareness, Access and Adoption approach, MyDIGITAL Corporation is building a national digital learning ecosystem that helps Malaysians move from understanding digital technologies and AI to applying them in their studies, careers and businesses.
Early results show strong engagement, with 12,900 learners enrolling in 43,000 courses in the first three weeks, particularly across Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Pulau Pinang and Perak. The most popular course is Understanding Digital Transformation, a custom course created by MyDIGITAL Corporation using Coursera’s Course Builder. Designed for beginners, the approximately two-hour course introduces the technologies shaping Malaysia’s digital economy, including cloud computing, modern data centres, AI and machine learning, blockchain, IoT and 5G. Other popular courses include Google’s AI Fundamentals, Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere and Foundations of Project Management, reflecting demand for practical, job-relevant skills.
YBhg. Datuk Fabian Bigar, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Digital, said: “Through Rakyat Digital, driven by MyDIGITAL Corporation, the Ministry is committed to making AI and digital learning accessible across all segments of society. Expanding access to globally recognised courses and professional credentials through Coursera reinforces our commitment to building a future-ready workforce. Our primary objective is to empower Malaysians with relevant skills so they can participate confidently and equitably in the digital economy.”
“Malaysia is setting a benchmark for how a nation can prepare its people for an AI-powered future, and we’re proud to be part of that ambition,” said Anthony Salcito, Global Head of Enterprise at Coursera. “What makes this initiative particularly meaningful is its scale and progression – building a culture of lifelong learning that is integral to Malaysia’s AI and digital transformation agenda. Through MyDIGITAL Corporation, Coursera is honoured to bring its global learning ecosystem to Malaysians, giving them access to skills and credentials that can help them stay ahead in a rapidly changing world of work.”
